Goodbye to the Noughties, and goodbye to 2009

I'm not going to blow off the [20]00's, as Paul Krugman did, by calling it The Big Zero. His country fared far worse than mine, or my wife's, during these years. Australia seem to have avoided major recession, and the nearest Việt Nam came to it is a measly 4% growth. Better than the soup kitchens and the 18% unofficial unemployment and the medical bankruptcies and the general malaise over there.

I'd like to welcome to the world my first (and for the time being, my only) nephew - Silas Crow Tomlinson. He was born last night (the 18th) to my darling sister, Karen, after a 10 hour labor. Congratulations to her and partner Piers. Woohoo!
On Introductory Blog Posts

I intended to write an introduction for this site - an archetypal "Welcome to my blog" post. Unfortunately, Google tells me that by now, there are 40,900,000 results for the phrase. It's a bloody cliché, and I don't like writing clichés. Faced with the embarrassing possibility of uttering them in public, I get writer's block.
So I decided to write a post celebrating my wife's birthday instead.
